OUR STORY

The Franklin family has been proudly cultivating vegetables in New Zealand for 118 years. For the past 65 years, our main crop has been celery, grown with care and dedication on the fertile lands of Franklin Farms. To keep our soils healthy, we’ve used sunflowers as a cover crop while rotating our celery fields. Over time, it became clear that the sight of these vibrant, golden sunflowers brought immense beauty and joy to our family and friends. Inspired by this, we decided to share the breathtaking sunflower fields with the public, allowing others to experience the simple magic they bring. Today, Franklin Farms continues to honor its rich agricultural heritage while offering guests a chance to immerse themselves in the stunning landscape and peaceful farm life that has been our pride for generations.

A recent addition to our farm, the Franklin Farm Butterfly House is part of our commitment to preserving New Zealand’s endangered monarch butterfly population. With monarch numbers steadily declining, we’ve dedicated a space on our farm in Waimauku to create a haven for these beautiful creatures. Through careful cultivation and a passion for conservation, we are doing our part to protect and nurture these delicate butterflies. We’re excited to share this educational and awe-inspiring experience with visitors, offering a chance to witness firsthand the beauty of the butterflies and learn about the vital role they play in our ecosystem.
